Job Description:

Our client, a reputable, family-owned and operated construction company based in Houston, Texas is seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Construction Estimator with a strong network of industry contacts to drive business development and secure new bids.

The Estimator will possess extensive experience in commercial and industrial construction estimating, as well as dirt works, earthworks, and underground civil.

This role requires the ability to perform full scope estimating, encompassing all aspects of construction, including plumbing, electrical, interior finishes, and structural components. The successful candidate will leverage their industry relationships to expand our client base and contribute to the growth of our established business.

Key Responsibilities:

This role encompasses several key areas of responsibility.

• Estimating & Scheduling: performing accurate take-offs, developing detailed cost estimates, and preparing construction schedules.
• Project Planning & Execution: strong conceptual and problem-solving skills to understand project requirements, participate in value engineering, and identify and address potential challenges.
• Business Development: ability to cultivate new business opportunities through industry networking, build strong client relationships, and actively pursue new leads.
• Contract & Proposal Management: collaborating with the team to prepare and submit winning proposals and contracts that accurately reflect project scope and client needs.
• Project Coordination & Administration: attending site meetings, coordinating with project managers, managing permitting processes, and ensuring safety compliance.

Requirements:

Required Skills:

• Proven Experience: Minimum A minimum of 5+ years of construction estimating experience, with a proven track record in commercial and industrial projects, is required, along with a deep understanding of dirt works, earthworks, and underground utilities. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform full scope estimating and possess extensive knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry best practices.
• Industry Connections: A well-established network within the civil engineering construction industry is essential.

• Business Development & Client Relations: A proven ability to secure new bids and cultivate successful client relationships is essential, coupled with an existing network of industry contacts within the Houston, Texas, construction market.
• Technical & Software Proficiency: Proficiency in construction estimating software and the Microsoft Office Suite is necessary, alongside the ability to perform full scope estimating of Plumbing, Electrical, Interior, Structural, Dirt works, Earthworks and Underground. Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, demonstrating an ability to interpret and utilize technical drawings and plans effectively.
• Essential Soft Skills: Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills are crucial, alongside strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Educational Background & Certifications: A bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred, demonstrating a strong foundation in construction principles and practices. Additionally, relevant certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), Certified Estimating Professional (CEP), OSHA 30-Hour Construction, and certifications related to specific estimating software or underground utilities are highly valued and contribute to a candidate's overall qualification.
• Language Proficiency: Must be fluent in both English and Spanish, enabling effective communication with diverse project teams, subcontractors, and clients.
